Let’s get real. Feeling stuck is exhausting. It drains your creativity, your energy, and even your joy. The good news? You don’t need a drastic life overhaul to get out of that rut. All it takes is small, intentional shifts—what I call micro goals and mini moments—to reignite your spark.

This became clear to me as I prep for a seven-week trip to Spain. On one side, there’s the planner in me who thrives on schedules. On the other, there’s the dreamer who wants to let go and let life unfold. Balancing these two sides isn’t easy, but it’s necessary. Growth, as uncomfortable as it can be, happens when you lean into the challenge.

Letting Go of Control

Michael Singer’s The Surrender Experiment taught me that letting go of preferences opens the door to unexpected beauty. So, I’m testing this on my trip. My plan? Minimal planning. Fewer bookings. More space for discovery in Madrid, Seville, Tenerife, Valencia, Malaga, and Barcelona.

This doesn’t mean I’ve abandoned my perfectionist tendencies—I’m still working on this trip. But I’m giving myself room to be surprised.

Micro Goals for Real Change

You don’t need a plane ticket to shake things up. Here’s how you can create your own shifts:

1. Try something new daily. It could be as simple as ordering a dish you’ve never had or taking a different route to work.

2. Unplug for an hour. Put down your devices, sit in a park, and just observe.

3. Loosen the schedule. Leave time for spontaneity in your day.

If you’re not traveling, these tweaks work just as well:

• Change your workspace for a day.

• Connect with someone outside your usual circle.

• Start your day with a meditation or try a new workout.

Why It Matters

Mental ruts limit you. They dull your thinking and rob you of creativity. When you break out of autopilot—even in small ways—you’ll see new opportunities, gain fresh energy, and feel more alive.

My Spain Experiment

Spain is my testing ground for all this. Can I really let go of control? Can I embrace the unknown? Honestly, I don’t have the answers. But I’m showing up, setting micro goals, and letting the experience unfold.

Your Turn

Start where you are. Set one mini goal for today. Maybe it’s a new habit, a different perspective, or simply making room for serendipity. Whatever it is, lean into it.

Life’s too short for ruts. Step out, stretch yourself, and see where those micro moments take you.

Work Habits & Productivity

2. Effortless
BY GREG MCKEOWN
Speaking of actions becoming more effortless, this is another book of McKeown’s that topped our 2022 reading list. Adding onto the powerful guidance around essentialism, this read delivers “proven strategies for making the most important activities the easiest ones,” like mapping out the minimum number of steps, finding the courage to “be rubbish” and more.
